It seems that holiday’s just keep getting better and better now that Jack is getting older. The 4th of July was no different. We had a great 4th of July and it makes me happy.
This was the year that Jack really got into fireworks. Now, we live in Iowa so we can’t legally do the big fancy shows. But we can do sparklers, some snaps and some of those snakey things. Which is fine because I don’t want to be responsible for those huge fireworks. Know what I mean?
On the 3rd, we headed over the border to where fireworks are legal and hit up one of the many fireworks stands. I had never been before so I had to ask what’s legal in Iowa and what wasn’t. I felt kind of stupid, but I’d rather look stupid and ask then buy something that could get us into trouble.
When we got home, it was still light so we went ahead and did some smoke bombs. I must say, I remember smoke bombs being crazy cool. But they were just alright this year. Or maybe we got some duds. Who knows.
Jack still loved seeing the different colored smoke and I guess if enjoyed it. Then I did too. I the frugalista in me was just disappointed that I spent money on something like that.
When it got dark, we got out the mega pack of sparklers. I love sparklers! Last year, Jack was apprehensive about them so I wasn’t sure how he would act this year. But he loved them too!! Even though we were having fun, I was still worried about him hold them. But he listened to the rules very well and we had no issues.
I really enjoyed watching Jack do the same motions with the sparklers that I would do when I was younger. We did the big arm circles and when it came time to writing his name, Jack thought that was the best part. Plus, I got to practice using my camera while taking pictures of the sparklers. I ended up with some great shots.
On the 4th, we headed to my friends who live in Nebraska where “better” fireworks are legal. They put a great show on for us in the backyard. It really beat trying to drive around town and find the best place to watch them.
We had a great 4th of July! How was yours?

In Wisconsin we can't have ones that go off the ground. The neighbor bought fireworks and we watched the stuff on the ground. The colored smoke bombs were ok. My daughter enjoyed them as they weren't loud. I think she enjoyed the light show
The kids loved the sparklers. We still have a ton of them. We will use them up maybe later this week when it's not so hot outside. Glad to hear you had a great 4th of July.
Happy 4th, Michelle. I love sparklers too. Glad Jack had a nice time!
PS: added you to my blogroll, this way I won't miss any of your posts
Thanks Megan!!!
