Last year, we went through a couple of different pools. Not fancy pools, they were from the big box stores. But they fit the purpose for Jack. I even got in on the action. One of the pools was pretty big and had decent depth. The three of us could sit “comfortably” in it. However, it had a nylon bottom and that didn’t mesh well with our cement patio. Unfortunately, the pat patio is the only flat spot to put a pool. By the end of summer, there were many tiny holes in the bottom and not worth keeping.
We were going to buy another pool this summer but decided not to. There are tons of kids running around the neighborhood. Having no fence + kid pool full of water could = a disaster. We both work during the day and the last thing we need is kids trying to hang out in it or worse. Plus, we rent and there is no way I’d put my landlord through that.
We’ve made do with a couple of water balloon fights and the trusty old sprinkler. I remember running through the sprinkler as a young kid. It was the best. What’s funny to me is watching Jack and his friends play in the sprinkler. They do a lot of the same things we did as kids. Including the classic washing of the hair and practically sitting their behinds on it.
Or, Jack and his friends let the parking lot fill up with water so they could lay in it or use Jack’s construction vehicles to “build” stuff. The water was cold but the cement was hot. It was their hot tub. Boys…..it’s fun to watch what ideas they come up with.
I am missing having a pool this year but finding other ways to stay cool has been fun as well. What are you doing to stay cool this summer?
