I always thought that I was a confident person. Maybe a little shy in new situations, but I would seem to get over it quickly. However, in the past few months, I’ve noticed my confidence shining through along with an overall better attitude about myself. Confidence and attitude are tied together. Who knew?
A while back, a friend had one of those jewelry parties. I went thinking I was going to buy a necklace or something simple considering I don’t own any jewelry. I ended up leaving with two necklaces, a ring and some hoop earrings. I also know the consultant and she guided me through the process that turned out to be painless. She made it her goal to get me set up for pieces to wear to work and to BlogHer. She wants to make sure that I present my best self. She’s really cool like that.
That same day, I had my hair permed in an effort to keep the pony tail days to a minimum. So here I was putting “some” effort into my hair and some new jewelry. Before I know it, I was getting compliments about how my friends/coworkers could tell a big difference in how I was presenting myself. They weren’t just short and sweet compliments. They were emails that went into detail about how they can see that I’m happier and etc. They were emails that me cry. They were emails that really made me think about how maybe my previous attitude towards myself were showing through at work and life in general.
A couple of months ago, I became an independent Pampered Chef consultant. It’s something that I never thought I would do. But I love their products/message and I wanted the extra money to pay for BlogHer. I had my first party and I was really nervous. It ended up being a great party. I recently had my second party with my sister and family. I rocked it. Rocked it like I’ve been doing this forever. At the end, I received some compliments about how well I did and so on. They were from family so maybe they are inclined to say something but I appreciate it anyways.
In my birthday card, my mom wrote something really meaningful. It pretty much said she was proud of me for doing the things I’m doing like blogging and Pampered Chef but still remembering what’s important at home. Bring on the tears.
Even though I’m 31 years old, I’m never too old to have people compliment me on anything. It’s amazing what a boost it gives me to do better. I also appreciate the people in my life for pushing me to do things I don’t normally do or things I thought I’d never do.
Maybe I wasn’t as confident in myself as I thought before. But I’m liking where I’m at now.
