A DIY HotWheels Party

Jack’s 5th birthday is coming up in October. We’ve begun throwing out party ideas and Jack is going to have a HotWheels party! It’s really no surprise considering HotWheels have consumed our house in the past few months.

My new blogging friend, Adam whom I met at BlogHer has come up with some awesome ideas for Jack’s HotWheels party.

Hotwheels are one of the most popular toys for kids.  They love to race them on tables, play with the sets and even create custom tracks with the different toys which is why Hotwheels birthday parties are some of the most popular parties out there.   Instead of just giving away Hotwheels at your next birthday party, here are a few ways to create your own fun and affordable HotWheels birthday party for kids.

Create Your Own Hotwheels Cars.

After the kids start to arrive at the party, break them up into either two or three groups and assign them each a giant cardboard box.  Then give them paint, stickers, and other things so that they can decorate the box to become a Hotwheels car.  (You should cut windows out of the side but only draw on the windshield for them).  Then have them pick a name for their car and have them write that on the side of their HotWheel.  The name will also become their team name for the party.

The HotWheels Obstacle Course.

After the cars are decorated and the teams are done building them, set up an obstacle course in the back yard.  Then call the teams and their cars out one by one and time them running the course.  Make the course have obstacles they have to weave around as well as things they have to go over like speed bumps and puddles (kids pools or a slip and slide).  The thing that will make this tricky is that half of the kids will be inside the box carrying it as a team and the other half will be standing at the front and back of the course guiding them through it to keep them safe.  (This is why you don’t cut out a windshield).  Then after one group finishes, the two of them change.  This will need supervision so the kids don’t get hurt.

Decorate Your Own HotWheels Cookie.

Go to the store and buy a car cookie cutter.  Then have the kids decorate their own HotWheels cookies.  Each kid should decorate three cookies.  Take two of the cookies and let the kids snack on them and then take the third cookie and put it in a box with all of the others.  This box will become a prize for the winning team of the obstacle courses.  The kids will love decorating the cookies and they are the perfect snack if you decide to give them a break after the obstacle course and let them watch their favorite HotWheels movie.

You can always do the easy party idea and buy HotWheel paper plates, napkins and a piñata, or you can be creative and help your kids use their imaginations and get more exercise while they are having fun.  HotWheels parties can be some of the most fun and memorable parties your kids will ever have and you can make them as amazing as you’d like.  You can also find fun themed kids pajamas with HotWheels designs or cars on them to help your kids be even more excited for their birthday party.
